St Vincent de Paul Society

Working Towards a Compassionate Society

The St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) is a lay Catholic organisation that aspires to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.

People seeking assistance from Vinnies should contact our Newcastle Referral Centre (phone  4961 6885)

We have three local conferences of Vinnies in the St Benedict's Inner Newcastle area, as follows:

Conference Meetings
Hamilton Weekly at Sacred Heart meeting room
Newcastle / Merewether
(St Mary’s and St Joseph’s)
Weekly at the St Benedicts Centre
Merewether Beach (Holy Family) Weekly at Holy Family meeting room

As members of these three conferences we work year round to assist people in our local area who experience disadvantage. By visiting people in their homes, Vinnies aims to help men, women, and families to break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage.

The Vinnies Centres at Hamilton (143 Beaumont Street, phone: 4961 3241) and Islington (125 Maitland Road, Phone:  4961 1476) are contact points for accepting donations. These Centres offer good quality second-hand goods for sale including clothing, household items and books. They are open from Monday to Friday, except public holidays, between 9.00 am and 4.00 pm, and on Saturday mornings.

The Vinnies has both male and female members. If you would like to know more about the work of Vinnies in our area, or if you would like to know how you can become involved please contact us at our diocesan office by phone (4967 6277), Email: maitland.newcastle@vinnies.org.au or register interest to volunteer or join at www.vinnies.org.au
