The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has a well-known and shameful criminal history of child sexual abuse amongst both clergy and other church personnel. There is no doubt that this heinous abuse and its cover-up has had a devastating effect on the victims and their family and friends, as well as our whole community.
Line, a victim of child sexual abuse at the hands of a member of clergy in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, has conceived a project of atonement that is being facilitated by the diocese.
You are invited to attend The Atonement: Lina’s Project at Newcastle City Hill on Friday 15 September from 5.30pm – 7.30pm.
So why should you attend? Because our whole community has been affected by these crimes. Because bearing witness to victims’ suffering will send a strong statement to them that we, as a community, believe them, stand with them and want to be part of Lina’s brave hope for healing.
You can rsvp to attend the Lina’s Project launch event by phoning 4979 1188. For more information please visit www.linasproject.com.au
