Thinking about becoming Catholic?
Discover the RCIA journey at The City Pastoral Region!
What is RCIA?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is how adults explore the Catholic faith and, if ready, become fully initiated through Baptism (or Reception), Confirmation, and Eucharist. It’s not a class to pass—it’s a supportive community, prayer, and real-life accompaniment.
Who is it for?
Never baptised? RCIA prepares you for Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Baptised in another Christian tradition? You may be received into full communion and confirmed.
Baptised Catholic but uncatechised? We’ll help you complete your sacraments.
Just curious? You’re welcome to come with no pressure or commitments.
How it works (the journey at a glance)
1) Inquiry – “Come & See”
Casual meetups to ask anything. No obligations.
2) Catechumenate – Learning & Living
Regular gatherings: scripture, discussion, prayer, and community life.
3) Purification & Enlightenment (Lent)
Focused preparation, usually including the Rite of Election.
4) Sacraments of Initiation (Easter)
Baptism/Reception, Confirmation, and Eucharist—often at the Easter Vigil.
5) Mystagogia (Easter Season)
Settling into parish life, service, and ongoing formation.
Typical timeframe: Many begin in the second half of the year and celebrate sacraments at Easter, though start times are flexible—begin anytime.

FAQs
Do I need to commit right away?
No. Start with inquiry sessions and decide as you go.
What if I was baptised elsewhere?
We’ll help you discern the best path to full communion—no re-baptism.
Is there homework or exams?
No tests. Short readings, conversation, and life-of-faith practices.
What about my partner/kids?
Partners are welcome at inquiry. We also support RCIC (for school-age children) and sacramental prep for families.
How much does it cost?
There’s no fee. If you need a Bible or materials, we’ll provide them.
I’m unsure I believe everything.
That’s okay. RCIA is precisely a journey of discovery.
