Jesus doesn’t promise an easy road–he promises a life worth living. Take up your cross, follow me, and discover that sometimes we find our life precisely by giving it away.

Jesus asks the question that cannot be answered second-hand: “Who do you say that I am?” Peter finds his answer–and discovers who he is called to become. Perhaps faith begins there: not simply knowing about Jesus, but allowing our answer to shape the way we live.

In today’s Gospel, a determined mother refuses to be silenced. Her faith crosses boundaries, challenges expectations and opens the way to healing. Jesus reminds us that God’s mercy is never ours to ration–there is always room at God’s table.

The safest place in life’s storms is not the boat–it is the outstretched hand of Christ.
