The ancient world must have been a frightening place
to live, considering the vast quantities of human blood
being spilt – especially in wars and sacrifices by pagan
priests to their gods. Today’s reading from Hebrews
tells us that Jesus, as eternal high priest and sacrificial
lamb, came to offer us a way out of all this. Yet, as we
know, in many places – including the Holy Land –
countless lives are still being sacrificed daily. Thus, our
work of proclaiming Jesus’ Gospel of love and peace to
all peoples must go on.
