During Lent each year we have prayers called the Scrutinies, which we pray with those being received into the Church at Easter. The purpose of these is to prompt the Elect to examine their lives in preparation for joining themselves to the Lord through the 3 sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. This should remind the rest of us that we too need to continually examine our lives in preparation for celebrating the Paschal mysteries, both at Easter and when we come to meet the Lord face-to-face upon the completion of our journey here on Earth.   Fr John
