In the gospel this week, Jesus calls the twelve together and sends them out to minister to the ‘lost sheep of the house of Israel’. Jesus sees the people of his generation as ‘harassed and helpless’ and feels compassion for them. They need reassurance, guidance and leadership – they need shepherds.
