Becoming Catholic

RCIA

Interested in Becoming Catholic or Knowing More?

Are you – or someone you know – curious about the Catholic faith, or considering becoming Catholic? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a journey of prayer, reflection, and learning that helps people explore faith and prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation. It’s also for Catholics who have been baptised, but have not yet received Confirmation and First Communion.

What is RCIA?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the Church’s way of welcoming and accompanying adults into relationship with Jesus Christ and His people. RCIA unfolds in steps—much like any good journey— with time to ask questions, learn, pray, and discern each next step.

  • Friendly, small‑group conversations
  • Sponsors and mentors to walk with you
  • Flexible pacing—begin with an informal chat

The Journey at a Glance

  1. Inquiry (Getting to Know You)

A friendly, pressure‑free space to ask questions about faith and life. Meet the RCIA team, hear stories, and share your own.

  2. Catechumenate (Growing in Faith)

Relaxed gatherings explore Scripture, prayer, and Catholic teaching. Sponsors walk with you; the whole parish prays for you.

  3. Rite of Election (Choosing the Journey)

Near the start of Lent, candidates are presented to the Bishop and community as they take a clear step toward the Easter sacraments.

  4. Sacraments at Easter

At the Easter Vigil, those ready receive Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist—welcomed into the full life of the Church.

  5. Mystagogy (Living the Mission)

After Easter, we continue to unpack the mystery—discovering how to pray, serve, and belong in daily parish life.

Questions We Love

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the pathway for adults to explore, prepare for, and enter the Catholic Church through a gradual process of inquiry, formation, and celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist).

RCIA welcomes anyone who is unbaptised, baptised in another Christian tradition, or a baptised Catholic who has not received Confirmation and/or First Communion. Seekers, the curious, and those returning to faith are all welcome.
Because RCIA is a journey, the timeline adapts to each person. Baptism at Easter is an ideal time. You can begin with an informal chat at any time.
